1. Carry one.
2. Even if you aren't a "knife person," you are in the bush.
3. It should be sharp enough to be a knife, pointy enough to be a fork, and wide enough to be a spoon.
4. Folding knives v. sheathed knives are a matter of personal preference, but they each have their proponents.
5. The proponent of each thinks the other is crazy and doesn't understand knives.
6. You won't have your knife taken away from you while traveling within the bush and the Interior.
7. Remember you have your knife on you ~ because you will have your knife on you ~ when you move from traveling within the bush and the Interior to traveling within "normal" civilization. You will have it taken away from you then.
8. Utility tools and Swiss Army knives are fine. Carry one if you want. Don't think it replaces a single purpose, old fashioned knife.
When I was six, my grandparents gave me a suitcase (blue with big, hot pink flowers). I kept it packed and stored in the closet, just in case there was an adventure and I needed to be ready. It took another 34 years, but I'm finally on the adventure. A published author, married to a helicopter pilot, life is fun, crazy, adventurous, challenging ~ but never dull.

On The Road Again
Fire season is starting up, which means we are back on the road as of today. This year, we were given the choice of where we wanted to be based. Interestingly enough, we chose Galena again. We were shocked to tell the truth but, having thought about it, we realized it was where we wanted to be. Having put a season behind us, we feel ready to make it work in a way were just weren't last year.
Our shopping list is solid:
350 tc sheets
pillows that still have stuffing
personal coffee maker
travel mugs
bath mat
bleach cleaner
dvds we haven't seen a bazillion times (and Firefly)
towels that absorb
washcloths
nail and cuticle products
umbrella
If you can't get to civilization, bring civilization with you. I might have a new motto!
